The road works, which resumed in early May 2025, are being executed by Praise Glory Lawal Construction Company under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works. The project had previously stalled in 2019.
Speaking to Frontage Africa over the weekend, Margibi County Development Officer Lewis B. Kaine disclosed that the road expansion follows an appeal made by the county administration and other local stakeholders to the Ministry of Public Works.
“Since the establishment of Margibi County, Kakata City has never benefited from road pavement. This is the first of its kind, and there is a pressing need to pave every street in the city,” Mr. Kaine stated.
He explained that while the government may not be able to pave all roads at once due to competing national priorities, the county administration remains committed to advocating for further road expansion to improve connectivity between major communities and main streets in Kakata.
According to Mr. Kaine, improved road infrastructure will reduce dust hazards, which have long posed health risks to residents.
He disclosed that the proposed road includes the World Bank Community Junction to Kakata Central Prison, as well as the City View–Gotomo Town Community Road to Bong Mines Road.
He praised the Unity Party-led government for its commitment to infrastructure development in Margibi County.
“This project is not only enhancing road connectivity but also promoting public health by eliminating dust-related illnesses,” he said. “It’s a fair share of the national development efforts reaching Margibians.”
