Bong County – Serious tension is brewing in Sayeh town, Boisen District Bong County hours after a tragic motor accident resulted

Although the exact cause of the accident remains unknown eyewitnesses said it involved a Toyota Hilux Pickup that belongs to a Chinese firm contracted by MNG Gold, A Turkish Mining Company operating in the area.
According to report, the incident occurred on the evening of Monday November 5, 2018 when the vehicle collided with a motorcycle, killing the rider, a passenger and two pedestrians.
Few minutes later, angry citizens set ablaze the vehicle while the driver was immediately rescued by officers of the Liberia National Police assigned in Dean’s town, a community few minutes away from where the accident took place.
Unknown persons reportedly entered the MNG Gold compound and put off its source of electricity, forcing the management to relied on standby generator to provide electricity in the meantime.
Police Support Unit officers from the Gbarnga’s Regional Justice and Security Hub in have responded travelled to the scene to ensure the protection of lives and properties.
Several local authorities in Bong County including Superintendent Esther Walker and the Chairman of the Bong County Legislative Caucus Senator Henry Yallah have been calling via phone on Community Radio Stations in Gbarnga appealing to the citizens to remain calm.
There is growing tension between the people of Saweh town and MNG Gold in recent time over allegations that an accidental chemical spillage as a result of the company’s operation had caused serious health hazard for residents.
Bong County Police Detachment Commander Fredrick Nappy, who spoke to reporter via phone while en route to the area, said several valuables belonging to the company have been looted already.
There’s heavy presence of police officer within concession. It is not known what exactly could happen over the next couple of hours.
