The project was implemented by Senan Group Ltd Borhole Drilling and Construction Company with funding from the Church of Christ Mission in Liberia.
The total cost of the project is in the tone of three thousand two hundred and fifty United States Dollars ($US3,3250).
There has been no reliable source of safe drinking water for the over five hundred inhabitants of the community for decades, something that caught the attention of the Church of Christ Mission.
The mission also operates a school on the outskirts of the community, where residents normally troop in for water.
Presenting the Hand-pump to the community, a representative of the Church of Christ Mission and supervisor of the project, Mr. Otis Nyemah said the project was part of efforts by the mission to enhance citizens’ access to safe drinking water.
Mr. Nyemah explained that it was sad to see the existence of a whole community without any single source of safe drinking water, which sometimes leads them to contracting minor sicknesses like malaria and diarrhea.
He believes the construction and turning over of the Hand-pump will greatly help the community in accessing safe drinking water.
In separate remarks, residents of the community were full of praise to the Church of Christ Mission for addressing one of the major needs of the community.
They assured the donor that the gesture will go a very long way in the history and existence of the community following several years of safe drinking water challenge.
Old Field Community residents recounted the many challenges they encountered during the past in accessing safe drinking water, particularly during the dry season.
With the construction and dedication of the drilled hand pump, residents of the community will no longer go far and near in search of safe drinking water as they did in the past.
