PANTA, Bong County – The Liberia National Red Cross Society is urgently calling for a rapid and coordinated response to address the devastating impact of a violent storm that struck Garmue Town, Panta District in Bong County on March 16 and 17, 2024.
The storm has left a trail of destruction, affecting at least 157 people, with 106 houses completely and partially damaged. As a result, 140 individuals are currently displaced, seeking refuge in nearby villages and towns, and are in dire need of immediate assistance for temporary shelter, food, assorted clothing, and cooking utensils.
A team of dedicated Red Cross volunteers is on the ground, tirelessly assessing the extent of the damage and evaluating the urgent needs of the affected communities. “We are mobilizing resources and support to provide essential aid to those impacted by this devastating event”, said Gregory Blamoh, the Secretary General of the Liberian Red Cross.
In light of this emergency, the Liberian Red Cross is reaching out to individuals, organizations, and partners, urging them to join the response efforts to alleviate the suffering of the storm-affected people in Panta District, Bong County. “We welcome donations, partnerships, and collaborations from everyone who shares our commitment to providing timely assistance to those in need”, Mr. Blamoh pointed out.
He added: “Time is of the essence in responding to this crisis, and together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the affected individuals and families. We appeal to the generosity and compassion of the public to support our relief efforts and help rebuild the lives of those devastated by this natural disaster”.
