Monrovia – The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has alleged that the National Elections Commission (NEC) is not living up to its pledge to remain transparent during the electoral processes leading to the elections and the elections itself.

The party’s youth wing chairman and chairman of primaries committee accused the NEC of refusing to furnish the party with the list of independent candidates. By this, he said the Commission has been infiltrated by some “bad apples”.
But the NEC has refuted the CDC allegations, claiming that it has not received any request from the CDC.
In a press conference held Wednesday at the party’s headquarters, Koijee said, “We can’t rely on an election commission who will not be transparent, we at the CDC have asked the NEC for the independent candidates listing but they have failed to give us such list.
“We see this as election pollution, something that we at the CDC wouldn’t accept and must call on the international community to take a look at,” Koijee said.
The CDC primaries chair said the coalition wouldn’t allow interferences from any individual who wish to spoil the pending electoral process.
He alleged that the failure of the election commission to give the Coalition the list is tantamount to early election fraud.
“Mr. Jerome Korkoya can’t take this election by chances, we all need a credible process that will take this country to the next level,” Koijee.
However, in a reaction to Koijee’s claims, NEC Communication Director, Henry Boyd Flomo said there were only two requests made from stalwarts of the CDC and not under the banner of the Congress of Democratic change.
“The NEC has no record of the CDC requesting such information by the party but two persons of the party namely Acarous Gray and Munah Pelham-Youngblood were the ones who requested the listing and we gave it to their respective representatives,” Flomo said.
He added that the independent listing is preliminary and the commission will publish on June 14 so as to ensure transparency, free and fair election.
Flomo: “As a body I haven’t come across their communication but the two representatives of CDC requested the Montserrado listing and the preliminary independent aspirants will also go along with the nomination process.”
