During a recent appearance on the ELBC Bumper show, Cllr. Brumskine urged the citizens to prioritize issues-based discussions and debates in the lead-up to the crucial October 10, 2023 general elections. She cautioned against electing politicians with “zero work history, zero experience, zero integrity” who could lead the country further into despair.
Cllr. Brumskine, a seasoned lawyer, has been impressing many with her understanding of politics and her commitment to articulating the CPP’s policy agenda. She is a staunch advocate for building a robust and “Liberian-centered” economy while also creating a society that harnesses the potential of women in leadership roles.
She stressed that the economy is of paramount importance, as it underpins all other sectors of national development. Cllr. Brumskine explained that a Cummings-Brumskine administration would prioritize economic advancement, attract industries to Liberia to create jobs, and ensure that Liberians benefit from agreements with foreign companies.
Cllr. Brumskine emphasized that Liberia must not be seen as a nation ripe for exploitation by corrupt officials and foreign companies, but rather as a serious and responsible economic partner on the global stage.
When questioned about why the Cummings-Brumskine ticket places a strong emphasis on the economy, she noted that the economy encompasses virtually every aspect of development, from resource management to infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and job creation. Mr. Cummings’ background in economics and finance uniquely positions the ticket to manage Liberia’s resources effectively and drive development.
Regarding attracting foreign investments, Cllr. Brumskine acknowledged that Mr. Cummings has connections with foreign companies and wealthy Liberians abroad who are interested in investing in the country. However, she lamented that the current business environment and corruption have deterred investors. She expressed optimism that with a Cummings-Brumskine presidency, these investors would reconsider their stance.
Cllr. Brumskine emphasized the importance of foreign investments in a globally interconnected world and outlined Mr. Cummings’ commitment to allocating $20 million in the first 100 days of his administration to support Liberian entrepreneurs, promote employment, and implement the Liberianization policy.
She also highlighted the government’s intention to view the private sector as a strategic partner in job and wealth creation, supported by enabling legislation and laws to protect this sector.
Cllr. Brumskine emphasized her legal expertise and experience as crucial for driving the economic agenda. She highlighted the importance of a strong legal system in attracting foreign investment and ensuring the rule of law. Her previous work in drafting legislation and providing legal advice for the government positions her as a valuable asset in this regard.
Cllr. Brumskine explained that her decision to serve as Mr. Cummings’ running mate was driven by her commitment to serving the country and promoting issues such as women’s empowerment and gender equity. She believes that elevating women in leadership roles is essential for minimizing corruption, prioritizing healthcare, creating jobs, and fostering entrepreneurship in Liberia.
