Liberia: John Morlu: ‘I Am Presently In Virginia, Not Monrovia’
Monrovia – FrontPageAfrica has been told by former Auditor General John Morlu himself that he is not in Monrovia or has never been in Monrovia anytime week before last, last week or presently in the country.
Morlu’s statement runs contrary to many assertions that he is presently in Monrovia and has only come based on the request from the Liberian government to help them prove their case in their fight against corruption.
He told FrontPageAfrica that he is presently thousands of miles away in Virginia, USA.
Some of those who have spoken of him being presently in Liberia, have also linked him to purported audit reports, which are being used as a basis to indict some former and current government officials by the Ministry of Justice.
They are saying that it was during Morlu’s reign, from April 2007 to April 2011, as Auditor General of Liberia that the reported audit documents that the Justice Ministry used to draw up the list of “corrupt officials,” were done.
Speaking on these insinuations in some sections of the public, Morlu further told FPA: “These are not even audits conducted by me but everyone is cursing me for anything that has to do with GAC. There has [have] been 3 Auditors General since I left nearly 8 years ago. But they seem to blame everything on John Morlu.”
In 2006, after an extensive international search, the European Union recruited Morlu to become the Auditor-General of Liberia. Morlu assumed office in April 2007 and his tenured ended in April 2011. Morlu has extensive background in public accounting and management consulting, working major companies in the USA such as Unisys and Bearing Point.
Morlu, currently a managing partner at his JSM accounting firm in Virginia and subsidiary in Ghana, is an accomplished C-level Executive with 20+ years of experience in accounting and finance. He holds an MBA in Finance from Johns Hopkins University; a Masters in Commerce and Policy from George Mason University; and Bachelor degrees in Economics, and Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia.
He holds multiple professional certifications including: Certified Public Accountant; Certified Management Accountant; Certified Fraud Examiner; Certified Internal Auditor; Certified Information System Auditor, Certified Government Financial Manager; and Certified Government Auditing Professional.
Prior to founding J.S Morlu, John held senior and executive level positions in organizations including the European Union, Bearing Point, Unisys Corporation, Washington Metro Transit Authority and IREX (a nonprofit corporation). John’s professional experience also includes working for a telecommunication start-up and co-founding a technology start-up in Malaysia. He has project management experience in more than 18 countries on four continents.
