The decision by Liberia’s Minister of Health, Bernice Dahn to support the bid of the former Minister of Health in France’s bid for the leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO) is more than a betrayal! it is a downright legacy of the near dominant culture of opportunism prevailing within the Liberian government.
What’s more is that she, like Dusty Blazy, except for his being a politician (and I am by no means implying a good one), are unfit for this position.
Mr. Blazy was a disaster at the French ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs, and failed to attract more substantial donors (and funding) for UNITAID beyond the original few.
His primary occupation was being referred to as President (the actual title was Board Chair) and a lobbied and unsalaried position cum title of Under Secretary General of the UN for Innovative Financing, conferred upon him by his former colleague (who served as minister of foreign Affairs of Korea), UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon.
Both Dousty Blazy and Dahn, collectively, have neither the track record and leadership skills nor relevant medical experience to run an organization in need of such dire change and leadership.
