Monrovia – The Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, on Monday, May 27, 2019 completed the donation of US$6,000 to the construction of a mosque in Bolonqoidu Town, Quadu-Bonu District, Lofa County.
Mr. Cummings, who is also a philanthropist, had initially made a donation of US$3000 to the construction during the 2017 Presidential and General Elections campaign season. Mr. Cummings, though being a Christian, had promised his Muslims brothers and sisters an additional US$3000 towards the same venture telling them that the balance was available whenever they were ready for it.
So, on Monday, the spiritual leader of the mosque, Imam Amara Kamara having reached out to Mr. Cummings two weeks ago to inform him of the progress of the mosque, was presented with the balance amount for the completion of the House of God.
The donation comes at the time when Muslims all over the world are observing their Holy month of Ramadan, during which time they fast from dawn to dusk and offer prayers to Almighty Allah for many things, including the safety and prosperity of the State.
Before he presented the donation to the imam, the party’s Secretary General, Mr. Aloysius Toe, spoke about the significance of the Muslims prayer month; adding: “This is why we in the ANC, including our Political Leader Mr. Alexander Cummings, believe that identifying with Muslims in Liberia also means identifying with Islam.”
Mr. Toe further stated that as part of the ANC’s commitment to religious tolerance, Mr. Cummings and the ANC will always remain committed to all religious communities because their intervention through prayers is the fundamental reason Liberia keeps sailing through its difficult periods.
Toe thanked Imam Kamara, who is the coordinator for the construction exercises, for the hard work as he leads efforts in constructing the House of God.
Receiving the donation from the ANC’s National Secretary General, the Muslim spiritual leader expressed how grateful the Islamic Community in Bolonqoidu Town and the entire Quadu-Bonu District is to the ANC and Mr. Cummings.
“It can be noted, Mr. Cummings’ first donation was done when the mosque was still at ground level,” Imam Kamara said.
He wished that everyone will know that Mr. Cummings and the ANC are religious tolerant; adding: “We can also say that he is talk and do. He says something and he does it.”
Imam Kamara hopes that Mr. Cummings will be available to attend the dedication of the mosque sometime in the future.
Meanwhile, the ANC’s Political Leader has also paid for the reroofing of the Agriculture Department Building of the Grand Bassa Community College. Authorities of the college knocked on the ANC’s door when a powerful storm a few weeks ago de-roofed the entire building leaving vital lab equipment exposed to damage.
Presenting the fully paid for invoice of assorted items, valued at US$1,485 to the administration, Mr. Larry Tuning, ANC’s Grand Bassa County Chairman, said: “We are glad to intervene during this time of need and this is something that the Party had been following up for years to ensure better learning atmosphere for Liberia’s future leaders.” Tuning was accompanied by Mr. Fubbi F. Henries, the ANC’s National Treasurer and Mr. Benny Perkins, a member of the party. For his part, the President of the College, Dr. Samuel Mowell thanked the ANC’s delegation for the timely move to help the College and stressed the need for more support to other affected areas on the campus, including the Administrative Building and cost of workmanship. He also placed an open request for computers and school bus, plus the repairs of four utility vehicles that are broken down and parked on the Campus of the college.
Another major problem he stressed is the damaged bridge that links the college to Buchanan City, which is impassable by motor vehicles, and has therefore become a footpath and a deathtrap for commuters.
Mr. Cummings had sent an assessment team to Buchanan last week led by his Chief of Staff to assess the damage caused by the storm and the estimated cost needed to replace the roof of the Agriculture building.
