D. Tweh Field Transform from Gravel to Artificial Turf

Monrovia- What was known as a gravel football pitch the Tweh sports pitch in New Kru Town has now been transform to a modern football field for residents and football players of Liberia.

The D. Tweh field one of the most famous football pitches on the Bushroad Island that produced many football stars that presented Liberian national is the latest of sports facilities in the country to benefit from the gesture of the Chief Patron of Sports George Weah.

President George Weah on Wednesday January 17, 2024 officially dedicated the famous D. Twe Football Field in New Kru Town.

The former gravel or boy headed Field has now been transformed to an Artificial playing turf.

The pitch which still maintain its size also has a mini stadium, inner fans and solar lights amongst others.

The project which marks a historic one since the establishment of the municipal Borough of New Kru Town was appreciated by thousands of Liberians.

According to the happy residents, the field is a dream come through for them and will help reduce the many injuries sustained by the player’s over the years.

D. Twe located in District sixteen Montserrdo County is one of the communities known to produce talented players but in the last few years it has not been due to what many term as the poor playing pitvch while other communities have good playing pitches.

Speaking during the official cutting of the ribbon to open the field, the Chief Patron of Sports said the project is in continuation of his gesture of giving back to his people as he remains committed to putting and maintaining the smile on the faces of his people.

“I play on this field back in the days and thought it wise to transform it like this because the playing pitch was too hard and I decided to give the upcoming players a good playing turf,” President Weah said.

According to him the representative of District 16 Dixon Seboe ask him to change the field something he did for the people of New Kru Town.

President said he hope the incoming government will be able to maintain the facility because it is important.

It can be recalled that the District benefited from the construction of pro poor housing units following a fire disaster that led several homeless in the Poor Beach community as well as the coastal defense force project which has so far prevented the sea from sweeping away the biggest public High School in the Borough of New Kru Town, D. Twe High School as well as the Redemption Hospital respectively.

Meanwhile in the friendly match Weah All Stars defeated Borough Old-timers Football Association 6-3.
