Monrovia – The Liberian National Police says it is in the process of weeding bad apples from the force. With the dismissal Wednesday of two of its officers, Patrolman Samuel Y. Wesseh (Badge #: 5421) and Thomas C. Clark (Badge #: 5412) for what it terms as criminal conspiracy and forgery.
In a press statement Wednesday, dated May 18, 2016, the Administration of the Liberia National Police says it has resolved to dismissed the pair from the services of this organization for Criminal conspiracy and forgery, thus contravening Chapter 10.4, and 15.70 of the revised Penal code of Liberia couple with Chapter III section 21 of the new Police Duty Manual captioned, prohibited Conduct. “Subsequently, you are hereby order to report at the Crime Services Department for immediate Criminal prosecution”, the release in the procession of FrontPage Africa stated.
According to the release, Patrolman Wesseh and patrolman Clark will have to turn all government properties which include Badges, Uniforms, ID-Card, Boots and other items they are in possession of to the Human Resource Section for onward submission to the Logistics Section.
Police Spokesman Sam Collins explained that patrolman Clark was one of several Police officers that were deployed in Lofa County under the UNMIL drawdown but sought a transfer [W1] to Grand Bassa.
However, Clark’s transfer reportedly did not meet the requirement set by the Liberia National Police.
“Thomas Clark is one of those that were deployed in Lofa County under the UNMIL drawdown and all of the incentives to form part of the drawdown process was given to him.
So, apparently he had now been seeking transfer from Lofa to Grand Bassa County but the transfer did not meet the requirement set by the Liberia National Police”, LNP Spokesman explained.
Collins said that in order to forcibly get his transfer he was however aided and abetted by another patrolman, Wesseh in that, Wesseh forged the signature of the human resource and gave a transfer letter to Clark.
“The order officer, Wesseh forged the signature of the Chief of Human Resource and gave a transfer letter to Clark. It was on that basis that the administration had no alternative but to charge both with criminal conspiracy and forgery”, Collins explained.
The LNP Spokesman says the two officers are not only dismissed but also will be charged and forwarded to court for prosecution under the charge of criminal conspiracy and forgery.
“This should be a wakeup call to other officers of the Police. It means that we are in the clean-up process, we will not entertain people among us with bad habits”, the Police Spokesman disclosed.
