NPA Conducts Intensive Training in Small Boat Operations

Monrovia – A two week intensive   training Course in Small Boat Operations for Liberia Sea Port Marine Personnel is underway in Monrovia.

The training is the first in a series of four seminars being organized and sponsored by the Management of the National Port Authority in collaboration with the Liberia Coast Guard.   It is being facilitated by a team of U.S trained/certified Liberian Coast Guard personnel.

The participants are being trained in Basic Seamanship; Boat Crew responsibility and Coordination; Personnel recovery; Plotting and Navigation System as well as Automatic Identification System (AIS)   and Global Positing System (GPS)  operations.

A release from the National Port Authority says the training will enhance the capacities of the Liberia Sea Port Marine Personnel in effective response to water-born security threats and provide substantial knowledge on boat maintenance for the participants.

Mr. Nyekeh Forkpa, Deputy Managing Director for Administration at the NPA making remarks at the opening ceremony of the training said the exercise is yet another clear demonstration of the NPA Management’s willingness and commitment   to building the capacities of the Staff.

Mr. Forkpa emphasized the importance of human resource development/capacity building as a crucial component for effective service delivery    and challenged the participants to take the training seriously.

“It is your responsibilities as participants to absorb as much as  you can absorbed from this training to equipped ourselves through the acquisition of knowledge and be able to apply the expertise  may be required”. Mr Forkpa said.

He furthered that the training will strengthened the existing collaboration and coordination between the Coast Guard and the Management of the National Port Authority.
