Monrovia – Liberian Free Masons from the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Masons in partnership with the General Grand Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, Republic of Liberia Wednesday, April 1, made a donation of assorted items to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL).
The Masons’ US$6000 donation is in support of the Government of Liberia’s fight against the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus disease in the country.
Presenting the items to NPHIL through Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, the Chairman of the Charity Committee of the Grand Lodge of Masons, Rt. Wor. Bro. N. Oxwald Tweh, 330, said the presentation was done on behalf of all Masons in the country.
“This is to assist the Government of Liberia in the fight against the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19),” Cllr. Tweh stated. He also informed the Minister of Health that it was not the first time that the Grand Lodge of Masons has assisted the Liberian Government.
“About six years ago in 2014 during the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus disease in our country, again the Grand Chapter established an Ebola Charity Committee, which provided essential foods and medical supplies to medical workers around the country.
“As a result of this present pandemic, again the Grand Lodge, in its desire to help, not only in Liberia but across the globe, constituted a Special Grand Lodge Covid-19 Taskforce to assist in the fight,” he further said.
Among the items presented to Dr. Jallah were bags of 25-kg rice, sacks of bottled mineral water, gallons of argo oil, beans, cartons of juices, etc.
Responding, Health Min. Jallah thanked the Grand Lodge and the Easter Star for the generous contribution.
“This donation comes at a time when are putting things together to make sure that all of those who are contacts and those who are contacts of contacts can be gathered. Because the most important way to defeat the coronavirus is making sure that people who come in contact with others can be gathered and in put in one place so the virus can’t spread to everybody.
The Health Minister called on every Liberian to play their part so that together Covid-19 will be stemmed out of Liberia. She also urged inhabitants of Montserrado and Margibi Counties to adhere to the Health Emergency restrictions.
“These are not normal times, so the condition under which we are going to live will be abnormal ways.”
Meanwhile, the Grand Lodge has earmarked US$40,000 as its budget in the fight against Covid-19. Following their donation, they visited the eight existing quarantine centers and some hospitals. They also have plans to visit other parts of the country in the coming days.
