MONROVIA – The Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL) in collaboration with Lush Cosmetics Inc (Lush) has signed a one-year funding agreement in which Lush is providing a charitable grant in the amount of US$25,000.00 towards ensuring the rights of women, children and low-income people are advocated for and protected through legal aid activities.
The project will also focus on awareness raising activities and training of trainers’ workshops where 50 trainers will learn to report and address harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), early/arranged marriages and exclusion of women from inheriting property.
The project which is targeting Montserrado and Grand Bassa Counties was signed at the official launch of the AFELL-Lush agreement held in Mount Barclay, Monsterrado County.
Over forty participants attended the program which brought together community leaders, chiefs, health practitioners, representatives of women and youth groups, law enforcement officers among others.
Speaking at the signing and launching program, The Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia’s President Attorney Vivian Neal said the rights of women and children are important and must be protected.
She said the agreement signed with Lush is a milestone for the women and Liberia at large, and with such agreement, AFELL will work in line with its partner in protecting the rights of women and children across Liberia.
The AFELL boss is at the same time calling on the government of Liberia to address issues that have to do with the protection of women and young children in the country.
She added that her office is working closely with other NGOs like the UNDP, UN WOMEN, FIN Church AID among others to help put a stop to the abuse of women and children by ‘ heartless’ men in the country.
Atty. Neal further said the financial aid provided by Lush Cosmetics Incorporated will be used in the right direction thanking the group for the level of help giving to Liberian women in protecting their rights.
