Liberians in Rwanda Back Push for Direct Kigali–Monrovia Flights

LIBCOR leaders meet travel agency, RwandAir representatives

KIGALI, Rwanda – Leaders of the Liberian Community in Rwanda (LIBCOR) have pledged to support an initiative to establish a direct air link between Kigali and Monrovia. They gave the pledge after meeting a Liberian travel agency working on the effort with Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir.

The LIBCOR delegation met Tuesday evening with Gbomai Bestman, chief executive officer of Easy Continental Travel Agency, and two senior members of her team. Bestman is in Rwanda on a working visit.

According to a statement from LIBCOR, the talks focused on the agency’s ongoing initiative with RwandAir, its objectives, and what it could mean for Liberians living in Rwanda.

Seleke Kromah, LIBCOR’s Vice Chairman for Administration, led the delegation. Other members of the community’s National Administrative Council attended, including the Vice Chairman for International Affairs, the Financial Secretary and the Treasurer.

The statement said the council took part on the instructions of LIBCOR Chairman James Edgar Denia. Members discussed how the community’s leadership could support the initiative.

Speaking for the delegation, Kromah thanked Bestman for what he called her continued cooperation, partnership and support for Liberians in Rwanda. He said LIBCOR would work with her team to explain the initiative’s goals and benefits to community members.

LIBCOR said it would share details of a planned engagement with the wider Liberian community in Rwanda beginning Thursday.

“LIBCOR remains committed to building meaningful partnerships that promote connectivity, strengthen relationships, and create opportunities for Liberians in Rwanda and back home,” the statement said.

The statement did not say when direct flights might begin, what routes or schedules are being considered, or what role RwandAir has formally committed to.
