Liberia: Rep. Fahnbulleh Hails Boakai Government for Reaching US$1 Billion Revenue Mark

MONROVIA — Representative Foday E. K. Fahnbulleh of Bong County’s Seventh Electoral District has expressed delight over Liberia’s achievement of the historic US$1 billion mark in national revenue.

Representative Fahnbulleh, a member of the National Legislature, congratulated President Boakai and members of the government’s economic management team for what he described as a significant achievement in Liberia’s revenue history.

In a statement, the Bong County lawmaker said the crossing of the US$1 billion threshold represents a remarkable moment for Liberia and deserves recognition, particularly at a time when the government is seeking to strengthen domestic revenue generation and improve the country’s economic outlook.

“I personally want to congratulate President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and the entire economic management team for achieving the historic US$1 billion mark in Liberia’s national revenue history,” Rep. Fahnbulleh said.

He said the achievement demonstrates the government’s commitment to implementing economic policies capable of generating increased revenue for the country and creating the fiscal space needed to address national development priorities.

The lawmaker’s comments come amid efforts by the Boakai administration to improve domestic revenue mobilization, strengthen tax and customs administration, reduce leakages and broaden the government’s revenue base.

Liberia’s attainment of the US$1 billion revenue milestone reflects the combined impact of domestic tax collections, customs duties and other government receipts generated through the country’s economic activities.

The achievement has been linked to efforts by the government to improve revenue administration and collection, strengthen compliance among taxpayers and businesses, enhance customs operations and reduce opportunities for revenue leakages. As economic activity generates taxes, duties, fees and other receipts, the government is able to mobilize more resources through the national budget for public services and development programs.

The milestone is particularly significant for Liberia because increased domestic revenue gives the government greater capacity to finance national priorities from resources generated within the country rather than relying heavily on external assistance and borrowing.

For Representative Fahnbulleh, the achievement should therefore be viewed not simply as a numerical accomplishment, but as an opportunity to strengthen the country’s economic foundation and translate increased public revenue into meaningful improvements in the lives of ordinary Liberians.

The Bong lawmaker said that, as a member of the Legislature, he remains prepared to support policies that contribute to economic growth and strengthen the government’s ability to respond to the needs of citizens.

“As a member of the Legislature, I remain committed to supporting policies that strengthen our economy and address the everyday bread-and-butter needs of our people,” he said.

The representative said revenue growth should provide the government with greater opportunities to invest in sectors that directly affect citizens, including roads, education, healthcare, agriculture, job creation and other essential public services.
