GRAND CAPE MOUNT — Atty. Al Varney Rogers, one of the legal counsels who represented Grand Cape Mount County in its protest case against Lofa County during the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet, has urged officials, coaches, and players across the county’s five districts to display exemplary sportsmanship during the upcoming 2026 District League.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with FrontPageAfrica, Atty. Rogers emphasized that players and officials must maintain high ethical standards both on and off the pitch in kickball and football to foster youth development and ensure a peaceful tournament.
The 2026 Grand Cape Mount County District League is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Weelor Town, Tewor District.
According to Atty. Rogers, the primary goal of the tournament is to enable the county’s head coaches and technical staff to scout top local talent in preparation for the upcoming 2026/2027 National County Sports Meet.
Atty. Rogers called on the technical staff of both the kickball and football teams to attend the league matches consistently to evaluate players thoroughly and build competitive squads for the challenges ahead.
“Sportsmanship is the ultimate foundation for athletic development,” Atty. Rogers noted. “If you wish to advance your career, you must strictly adhere to the rules governing the district league. It is through this tournament that our technical staff will evaluate every player and assemble a strong squad for the main county meet.”
Addressing the wider Grand Cape Mount community, Atty. Rogers urged citizens to set aside personal differences and unite behind the county’s preparations.
He noted that organizational harmony is essential if the county hopes to achieve success in the upcoming national tournament.
He further appealed to the Cape Mount diaspora community to provide financial and material support to the Grand Cape Mount County Sports Department, emphasizing that external backing is vital for motivating athletes to deliver strong results against their opponents.
