MONROVIA — Borough Football Club has bolstered its midfield options ahead of the 2026/27 Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division season with the acquisition of promising holding midfielder Eric Hney on loan from Caldwell United FC.

The transfer marks a deep personal homecoming, extending a generational family lineage that spans the club’s various historical identities.
The First Division outfit officially unveiled Hney on Tuesday, welcoming him to “The Pride of the Borough” as pre-season preparations intensify.
While Hney arrives primarily to provide tactical depth in defensive midfield, his signing carries profound personal history.
The club, which originally competed as Monrovia Club Breweries before transitioning to Global Pharma FC and eventually rebranding as Borough Football Club, has long been intertwined with Hney’s family.
“I am very happy to join Borough FC because this club means a lot to me and my family,” Hney said during his unveiling. “Growing up and hearing about my family members playing here made me develop a special connection. I’ve always considered this my boyhood team.”
Following Historic Footsteps
Hney follows in the footsteps of three relatives who represented the club during its iconic Monrovia Club Breweries era: Marcus Marcculay , Festus Blapoh, and former long-serving team captain Marvin Blapoh.
Marvin Blapoh remained a central figure during the club’s transition through the Global Pharma era into Borough FC, serving as captain before his departure during the second phase of last season’s league campaign.
Despite the heavy family ties, Hney insists he is focused on forging his own path in the top flight.
“I know my family members represented this club before me, and that makes me proud,” Hney noted. “But I have to create my own story. I am coming here to work hard, learn from the technical staff, and give everything when given the opportunity. Nothing will be handed to me I am ready to fight for my place.”
Club President Urges Merit over Pedigree
Speaking on the acquisition, Borough FC President Sylvanus Morris praised Hney’s technical potential while emphasizing that historical ties will not guarantee starting minutes.
“Eric is a hardworking holding midfielder we have been monitoring closely,” Morris said. “What makes his arrival special is the history his family shares with this institution across its different identities from Club Breweries to Global Pharma and now Borough FC.”
However, Morris was firm regarding expectations for the incoming midfielder.
“At Borough FC, every player must earn his place,” the club president added. “Eric understands that he isn’t here because of his surname. He is here to compete, develop, and contribute to our objectives. Our responsibility is to provide the right environment, but he must demonstrate the discipline and determination required at this level.”
As Borough FC continues to fine-tune its squad with a blend of youth and experienced local talent ahead of the campaign opener, Hney expressed readiness to embrace the pressure.
“This is a major responsibility, but I am coming in with a positive mindset,” Hney said. “I know what this badge means to the supporters and community. I am ready to give everything.”
