Coach Gerald Julius Vows to Build Winning Youth Squad at Down Town FC: “We Will Not Let Supporters Down”

MONROVIA — The newly appointed head coach of Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division side Down Town FC, Gerald Julius, has outlined a long-term strategy focused on youth development, emphasizing the recruitment and growth of young talent over heavy reliance on veterans.

Coach Julius signed his contract on Friday, July 31, at the club’s headquarters in Central Monrovia.

He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously coached LFA top-flight sides Roots FC, Monrovia Breweries, Freeport FC,  Heaven Eleven and Black Man Warrior FC.

Julius’ tactical philosophy directly aligns the vision of club President, CEO, and LFA Executive Committee Member Pokah K. Roberts, who also serves as Co-Chair of the LFA Grassroots Football Committee.

“Being at an LFA First Division club like Down Town FC gives me the opportunity to work with young players, develop them, and build a competitive team for the future,” Julius said.

“Our objective is to compete for the LFA First Division title and the Orange Cup. We will not let the club president, management, and supporters down; we are here to make our mark and achieve great success together.”

The signing ceremony was attended by President Roberts and the club’s Secretary General, who represented Down Town FC during the official  unveiling ceremony.

The appointment signals Down Town FC’s ambition to bolster its squad ahead of the upcoming LFA 2026/2027 campaign.

Julius replaces Coach Sam Chebli, who parted ways with the club by mutual consent on June 25.

Downtown FC administration has tasked the new head coach with securing either the First Division league title or the prestigious Orange Cup in the upcoming season.

While the club has confirmed the high expectations, the exact duration and financial details of Julius’ contract remain undisclosed.

Down Town FC, based in Central Monrovia, has experienced a rapid rise in Liberian football.

The club earned promotion to the top tier following an impressive 2024/2025 Second Division campaign achieving promotion in its debut season in the division.

In its inaugural First Division season (2025/2026), Down Town FC finished 11th in the league standings and the club leadership now looks to Julius to elevate the team into a serious title contender.
