GANTA, Nimba County – In a heartfelt address amid the vibrant markets of Ganta, Liberia’s bustling commercial epicenter, Vice President Jeremiah Koung praised the local business community for their instrumental support during his early entrepreneurial days.
Speaking to a crowd of cheering merchants, traders, and residents on a sun-drenched afternoon, Vice President Koung reflected on his humble beginnings and vowed to give back to the people who helped shape his path to the nation’s second-highest office.

Vice President Koung, a native son of Nimba County, emphasized his deep gratitude, positioning himself not as an ungrateful leader but as one committed to honoring those who stood by him.
“I am not an ungrateful person,” he declared, his voice carrying over the hum of nearby market stalls laden with goods from across West Africa.
“I have returned to applaud this business community for their continued role in my life,” he stated.
He outlined ambitious plans to engage multiple sectors across Ganta and Nimba County, including Christian and Muslim communities, youth groups, women’s organizations and local farmers, signaling a renewed focus on inclusive development in the region.
Recounting his journey, the Vice President shared vivid memories of his pre-political life.
“You people played a key role in my life while I was involved in active business activities here in Ganta,” Vice President Koung said.
“I started by selling tablets, medicines in a simple bucket on these very streets before expanding into other ventures. I will never forget you, including all Nimbaians. I will continue to stand with you,’’ he continued.
In a moving gesture of appreciation, Vice President Koung presented a check of US$10,000 to a prominent local businessman known affectionately as “Papa.”
Describing ‘‘Papa’’ as a “Jesus Christ” figure whose generosity pulled him from dire financial straits, the Vice President highlighted the man’s transformative aid during tough times.
The crowd erupted in applause as ‘‘Papa’’ accepted the check, a symbol of Vice President Koung’s promise to uplift those who once lifted him.
This act underscored Ganta’s tight-knit business culture, where personal bonds and mutual support have long fueled the town’s economy amid Liberia’s post-conflict recovery.
Vice President Koung also lavished praise on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, whom he affectionately called his “Father.”
“The way President Boakai treats me like a son to a father is unparalleled,” he said.
“He is the best President; he continues to expose me to the outside world and our country at large.”
This endorsement reflects the strong alliance between the two leaders, who together represent Unity Party’s push to revitalize Nimba County, a mineral-rich region critical to Liberia’s growth.
Pledging sustained engagement, Vice President Koung committed to ongoing partnerships with Ganta’s business leaders and Nimba’s diverse communities.
