Speaking during his unveiling ceremony Wednesday, Kennedy said he was motivated to join Grand Kru County because he wants a new challenge.
The new Grand Kru County Kickball coach promised to qualify the county for the quarterfinal and win the 2024/2025 County Meet Kickball version.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Grand Kru County Sports steering committee chairman, Alfred Sayon, said the county is delighted to have Jerry Kennedy as their head coach.
He said the county is committed to supporting coach Jerry to achieve his target. “We want to make the public know that this coach is not on the market anymore; he’s committed and is already booked and he has agreed to be head coach of the Grand Kru County Kickball team,” Sayon said.
Sayon said Kennedy’s mandate is to win the trophy because every coach that comes to a team knows that he must win.
“To deliver, we as a county are required to give him all the support he needs, financial, logistics and any other things we can do to make sure he achieves his goals.
Kennedy, for his part, said he wants to win the county meet as a head coach.
“I have come to join Grand Kru County with my heart to lift the county meet trophy this year with Grand Kru County.
“You have followed me before and know what I am capable of doing, I have several players that I will take to Grand Kru County to help me to achieve my dream and make Grand Kru County proud,” Jerry Kennedy said.
He added he was motivated to join Grand Kru County because of his big sister who convinced him to join the county. “I have been with Margibi County from the grassroots, serving as caretaker, and trainer, but it’s time now for me to take a step, if you don’t know the value of your own the person will leave.
“It’s time for me to make a move and for me to return to Margibi it will be very hard because this place will be my resigning area, I can tell you at this coming County Meet you will see me jubilating with my trophy in my hand,” he said.
Kennedy served Margibi County for 11 years in several capacities, including caretaker, team manager, deputy coach and later head coach.
He clinched the 2019 Championship of the kickball version of the National County Sports Meet, defeating Grand Bassa County at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville.
Grand Kru County are paired in Group B with hosts Grand Gedeh, Margibi and Montserrado Counties.
The national County Sports Meet is the biggest sports event in Liberia and will kick off in December of 2024.
