Man Arrested with Firearm at Liberia’s 172nd Independence Day Celebration

MONROVIA – A man carrying firearm has been arrested by joint security forces assigned at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex where Liberia’s 172nd Independence Day Celebration is currently ongoing.

The man who claimed to be personal security of Grand Bassa County Representative Matthew Fairplay Joe was nabbed by security forces while trying to enter the venue of the celebration.

FrontPageAfrica is yet to confirm his name. He, however, identified himself as the personal bodyguard of the lawmaker.

The joint security which comprises the National Security Agency, Executive Protection Service, Liberia National Police, Liberia Immigration Service, Armed Forces of Liberia, said the man has no license to carry firearm. He has been taken to the Liberia National Police Headquarters for questioning.

The arrest occurred a few minutes before the arrival of Senegalese President, Mackay Sall for the celebration.
