The training, which runs from August 1–14, is sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and organized by the Hunan International Business Vocational College.
The group was warmly received on Thursday, August 1, at the Hunan International Airport by facilitators of the college before being transported to the Meyes International Hotel on Yuehua Road in Changsha City.
During the official opening ceremony, Mr. Liu Qi, Second-Level Researcher of the E-Commerce Division at the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, underscored China’s commitment to fostering cooperation with developing countries.
“China, as the world’s largest developing country, sees solidarity and cooperation with fellow developing nations as a strategic priority,” Mr. Qi said. “Through initiatives like the Belt and Road and South-South cooperation, we have worked to improve livelihoods and boost economic development, contributing to global peace and progress.”
He noted that the seminar aims to serve as a transnational platform for dialogue and knowledge sharing.
“In a rapidly evolving media landscape, this seminar is designed to enhance the global communication capabilities of Liberian journalists and deepen exchanges between China, Liberia, and other African nations,” he added.
Quoting an ancient Chinese proverb, he emphasized the spirit of partnership: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.”
Mr. Peng Tieguang, Vice President of the Hunan International Business Vocational College, encouraged participants to integrate the Chinese experience into their national contexts and develop customized approaches to media capacity building.
“We hope you will gain a deeper understanding of China’s media ecosystem and become ambassadors of media collaboration and cross-cultural friendship,” he said.
Representing the Liberian delegation, Nyantee Genero Samuel Togba—senior legislative reporter at OK FM—expressed gratitude to the hosts and sponsors for the opportunity.
“On behalf of my colleagues from various media institutions in Liberia, I extend heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese Embassy in Monrovia and the Hunan International Business Vocational College for facilitating this remarkable seminar,” he said. “This is the first time many of us are traveling outside Liberia, and experiencing China firsthand is both enlightening and humbling.”
Togba emphasized the relevance of the seminar, noting that Liberia’s media sector is navigating significant challenges and opportunities.
“This training introduces us to key elements of China’s development journey—from economic reforms and political transformation to its globally recognized poverty reduction efforts,” he said. “It also reinforces the importance of Liberia’s ties with China, particularly our commitment to the One China Policy, which continues to yield mutual benefits.”
The host institution, Hunan International Business Vocational College, boasts nearly 70 years of history. It is recognized as a provincial model higher education institution and a key training hub for international talent in foreign trade under the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.
