MONROVIA – The Liberia Taekwondo Federation (LTF) has received a major international boost following its selection as a beneficiary of the 2026 World Taekwondo (WT) Development Programme Equipment Support initiative.

In an official communication addressed to LTF President, Master Junior Pewee Russian, World Taekwondo confirmed that Liberia’s Member National Association (MNA) was chosen following a rigorous review process conducted under its approved global development criteria.
Liberia stands out as one of only ten national associations worldwide selected to receive equipment assistance this year.
The move is expected to drastically improve the country’s martial arts infrastructure and athlete development pathways.
Strengthening Training and Preparation
The support package is designed to modernize national training environments, sharpen athlete preparation, and foster the sustainable growth of Taekwondo across Liberia’s fifteen counties.
World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue, who signed the communication, emphasized the global body’s commitment to implementing development programs with transparency and accountability.
According to the WT, beneficiaries were selected based on specific development needs, governance standards, and active engagement within the international framework.
The letter further highlighted this year’s guiding vision, “Reborn Together,” which advocates for unity and shared responsibility in advancing the global Taekwondo community.
“A New Dawn” for Liberian Athletes
Reacting to the announcement, LTF President Master Junior Pewee Russian described the selection as a historic milestone for the sport in Liberia.
“This is a new dawn for Taekwondo in Liberia,” Master Russian said. “Being selected among only ten associations worldwide proves that our efforts and commitment to developing the sport is being recognized on the global stage.”
He added that the influx of professional-grade equipment will provide young Liberian athletes with much-needed access to quality training tools, allowing them to better compete in regional and international championships.
Despite limited resources in recent years, the LTF has intensified grassroots development and maintained participation in continental events.
It is believed that WT support could be the turning point for the federation, providing the technical preparation necessary to boost Liberia’s long-term competitiveness.
With the backing of the world governing body, stakeholders say Liberia now has a prime opportunity to not only strengthen domestic structures but also to position its fighters for greater visibility on the African and global stages.
