Monrovia – Despite lingering in the relegation zone of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division table, Down Town FC are refusing to surrender their survival hopes following a 1-0 victory over Paynesville FC over the weekend.

The crucial encounter, staged at the Tusa Sports Ground in Gardnerville, saw striker Suleiman Sesay emerge as the hero, netting a clinical first-half strike to secure all three points for the struggling side.
The win lifts Down Town FC to 19 points; however, they remain anchored in the drop zone of the top-flight standings.
Despite the grim outlook, Sesay remains optimistic that the club can orchestrate a “great escape” with eight matches remaining to the end of the season.
“We can still win more games,” Sesay told FrontPage Africa confidently, stressing that the squad’s focus has shifted entirely to securing the points necessary to maintain their First Division status.
The road ahead remains steep. Their next challenge is a formidable fixture against defending champions FC Fassell a match Sesay believes will be a litmus test for their survival ambitions.
“We promised our club officials, that we would either compete for the title or, at minimum, remain in the First Division,” Sesay noted. “While the title is now mathematically out of reach, survival is still very much possible if we stay committed.”
The striker emphasized that for the club to control its own destiny, they must aim to win at least seven of their final eight fixtures.
“It’s time for us to step up and deliver. Our next game against FC Fassell is massive. A win there would change the entire momentum of our season,” he added.
Down Town FC’s struggles this season have kept them under intense scrutiny, but the weekend’s victory has injected a much-needed sense of belief into the locker room.
