Monrovia – The Deputy Chief of Mission, Alyson Grunder and the Embassy’s Economic Officer, Rick Merrin, Wednesday, September 19, 2018 paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Posts & Telecommunications, Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr.
According to Deputy Chief of Mission Grunder, her visit was to acquaint herself with activities of the Ministry and a first step to meeting government officials since taking an assignment in the country.
For his part, the Minister of Posts & Telecommunications, who is also the Post Master General, Cllr. Kruah welcomed Madam Grunder and her delegate on behalf of the government and the Postal family.
The Minister also informed his guests of the Ministry’s ongoing ICT programs with specific reference to the e-Liberia Portal and as well as e-government programs, which the Ministry is working along with other agencies to implement.
The many ICT programs that were mentioned by the Post Master General have some connections with International Telecommunications Union (ITU), which is an organ of the United Nations that is responsible for policy and development of Telecommunications and ICT in the world. Liberia and the United States are both members of the ITU.
During the exchange of ideas, Minister Cllr. Kruah informed Deputy Chief of Mission Grunder that the government is working to launch its new ICT Policy that will govern the sector for the next five years.
The Minister also used the occasion to laud USAID and Digital Liberia for their assistance and participation in the improvement of ICT infrastructure programs in Liberia.
He also pointed out some of the programs to include, the e-Liberia Portal, the Postal Financial Services and the launched of the Cybersecurity response team all of which has IT implications.
