Two Suspects Charged in Margibi School Textbooks Theft

Kakata, Margibi County – Police in Margibi County have charged two persons for allegedly burglarizing the Cinta Public and making away with several copies of public school textbooks and other valuable items.

The two suspects are Momo Gbandiboy age 32 and Johnson Flomo, 35.

The Liberia News Agency quoting a copy of a Police charge sheet, said on the 24^th of October, 2016 the two suspects were arrested and duly acquainted with their constitutional rights, investigated and charged with burglary and aiding consummation of crime respectively in consonance with chapter 15 and 12, sections 15.20, 12.5 of the revised New Penal Code of Liberia and forwarded to court for prosecution based on evidence gathered  against them by the Principal of the Cinta Public School, Lusenie Dorley.

The Principal of the Cinta Piblic, Lusenie Dorley said he received that on the 24^th of October, 2016, he received a phone call from one of his instructors Stephen Paye that some unknown persons have broken into the warehouse and his office and made way with several items from the school.

The stolen items includes several unspecified number of text books, one hundred pieces of plates, 8 pieces of Liberian Flag, mega phones ,spraying cans, 3 sets of Jessie and two pieces of ledgers.

The value of the stolen items according the Police charge is put at eight hundred and seventy five United States Dollars.

During Police preliminary investigation it was discovered that suspects Gbandiboy and Flomo were involved in the burglary of the Cinta Public school on the night of October 24, 2016.

Suspect Gbandiboy during the Police preliminary investigation denied ever burglarizing the school but however codefendant Johnson Flomo admitted to the crime but said he was not directly involved but instead bought the stolen books from Gbandiboy.

Meanwhile, suspects Momo Gbandiboy and Johnson Flomo have been turned over to the kakata Magisterial Court for prosecution.

At the same time, the County Education Officer of Margibi, Madam Gomma Minnie has expressed serious concern about the increasing with of burglary of public schools in the county.

Madam Minnie disclosed that several schools have been burglarized and several copies of text books stolen since the government of Liberia through begun the distribution of textbooks for the academic year to public schools in the county.

She said almost all of the public schools are being burglarized and textbooks and other instructional intended to enhance the educational needs of these schools are taken away by criminals.

Madam Minnie said the matter is being seriously investigated by the Crime Services Division, (CSD) of the Liberia National Police, (LNP) in Margibi County.
