Monrovia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) have confirmed the arrest of three suspected criminals in connection with the burglary of the Afriland Bank in Gbarpolu County.

The arrest was made following an armed robbery incident at the Afriland Bank in Gbarpolu County on Tuesday October 23, 2018.
Speaking during a press conference at the National Headquarters of the LNP, the spokesperson of the LNP, Moses Carter said suspects Daniel, Alias Monk, Gabriel A. Rivercess and Jeremiah Merchant were arrested on Wednesday October 24, investigated and charged with multiple crimes ranging from criminal conspiracy, burglary, robbery, theft of property, aggravated assault and terroristic threat.
“We are pleased to inform the public that the Liberia National Police has arrested three alleged suspected criminals in connection with the October 23, 2018 armed robbery at Afriland Bank,” he said.
Carter said the alleged act violates Chapter 10,15 and 14 Section 10.4, 15.20 among others.
The police spokesman added that during police preliminary investigation, it was established that LRD$6,110,710.00, and USD$4,540.00, Mobile Money sim card containing LRD$38,000 and one cell phone were taken away by the robbers.
He also noted that the inside locks at the Iron Gate and the Vault in the bank were damaged, and the security who was on duty the night of the incident was seen with bruises on his face.
Carter confirmed that preliminary investigation conducted also revealed that the three suspects escaped the scene after the commission of the act through the Suah Town DC Clark Check Point after placing an officer of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) under gunpoint.
At the same time, Moses Carter also confirmed that eight of the 35 inmates who broke the Robertsports Central Prison on Tuesday October 18, 2018 have been rearrested and sent back to prison.
“Our officers came under attack by the escapees who attempted killing one of our officers. In the process, our officer managed to stop the threat against his life. As a result of stopping the threat, one of the escaped inmates identified as Tamba sustained injury and was rushed to the St. Timothy Hospital in Robertsports where he was later pronounced dead by medical doctors,” he said.
Carter also confirmed that the LNP has arrested and charged a 34-year-old man identified as Morris Tokpah with Negligent homicide.
The LNP spokesperson said suspect Morris asked victim Ben Morris to help him transport his cement blocks from the Duport Waterside to an Island about 30 minutes away and was not seen again until he was discovered dead.
“Police preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Ben Morris did not return from the Island where he had gone with the suspect until he was discovered dead by residents of the area,” Carter said.
