Sinje, Grand Cape Mount County – An organization responsible for Sexual and Reproductive Health Promotion in Liberia has been lauded by the rural women and girls of Sinje district for its role in the promotion of Sexual health in the country.
The Planned Parenthood Association of Liberia (PPAL) have been lauded for its efforts in supporting the community by providing adequate Sexual and Reproductive Health information and material benefits to the rural women in that part.
Speaking to this Paper, the women have expressed their gratitude to PPAL during the distribution of traditional – made sanitary pads to the girls and women of Sinje district.
In an interview, the project focus person of PPAL, Joyce Faith Keneah, said that the project was created to tackle the rate of teenage pregnancy in hard to reach communities.
She said that the project which is under the Teenage Prevention scheme is been implemented in that part because women and girls in these hard to reach part of Liberia find it hard to have access to sanitary pads or they do not have the money to afford to get them.
This she says facilitates the spread of germs or diseases to rural women and girls especially through the methods they use.
According to her, the sanitary pads given are traditionally made and they are washable, and reusable which means these pads can be used for about the entire year when taken care of.
Also speaking, the community leader, Mr. Siaffa J. Perry, extends his gratitude on behalf of the rural women and community for the level of work PPAL is carrying on in the district.
He says, that since he was informed about the work of PPAL in the district, the teenage pregnancy rate had begun to drop drastically unlike previous times where there were huge drop off of girls from high school.
He further calls for continue support in Sexual and Reproductive Health issues in the county as this will help rural girls and women in other parts of Liberia to have access to free family planning services which he thinks will reduce the rate of teenage pregnancy in Liberia.
In a conversation with, Sandra S. Bayo, a youth, she expresses her gratitude to the PPAL family as she outlines the benefits the pads will provide for them;
She further encourages PPAL to extend the pads distribution to other hard to reach districts in the county.
