Sen. Zargo: President Weah’s Administration ‘Not Doing Well for Lofa’

Voinjama, Lofa County – The Lofa Legislative Caucus Chairman has expressed his disappointment over the way the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)-led administration is rendering political decisions to Lofa County after the heated 2017 elections.

During the 2017 Presidential Election, voters in Lofa overwhelmingly voted for former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, who hails from the county, even though he lost the election to President George Weah.

In an interactive engagement recently with some of Lofa’s intelligentsia, who had gathered at the Wologizi Intellectual Forum in Voinjama, Senator Zargo disclosed that the President had called him and others few days ago to a local hotel in Monrovia, to talk about the state of the nation; adding: “To be frank, I am disappointed in the outcomes of that meeting.’’

“Lofa has many of its sons who put their lives on the line for CDC. These people turned their back to tradition and supported Amb. Weah. Some of you know I opted for the Senate Pro-Tempore position. We were not against any individual; we were opting for regional balance,’’ he said.

The Lofa Senator projected his argument on the Constitution, which calls for political parties to have membership that is regionally balanced.

“The President is from the Southeast, the President Pro-Tempore of Senate is from the Southeast, the Speaker of the House of Representatives from the Southeast, then you take Senator Cllr. Joseph Nagbe, who is also from the Southeast, to appoint him as Associate Justice-designate. At least Lofa has Cllr. Dr. Jallah Barbu, who has PhD in Constitutional Law. He supported CDC to the fullest,’’ the Lofa County lawmaker bemoaned.

He cautioned his kinsmen, through the few who had gathered to listen to him, that they should brace themselves for more “shocks” from the 2017 elections; adding: “The President has the constitutional duty to make appointments.”

In what appears to be an indirect response to Senator Zargo, the Commissioner of Wanhasa District, Madam Julie Fatorma Russell, who supported President Weah’s runoff bid for the Presidency, told citizens that CDC being an opposition party from 2005 to 2017, had many of its members waiting to take state power.

“These are people who struggled with the party for very long time. They are currently holding the President’s neck for job. Let the Lofa people bear patience,” she stated; adding: “The President has six years to go; things will get better.”
