River Cess County: Prominent Son Nyakoon Boosts Agriculture and Education In District #1

October 20, 2026 Kporkon, Rivercess County – Agricultural and educational activities in Electoral District #1 of Rivercess County have been boosted following the intervention of a prominent son of the county, currently residing in the United States of America.

By Emmanuel Weedee-Conway

In the first intervention of Amos J. Nyakoon, he donated a rice mill valued at L$120,000 to farmers in Kporkon Town, a move that has been heralded as a turning point for local agriculture.

For years, farmers in the area have relied on hand pounding or traveled long distances to mill their rice, a process described as slow, tiring and costly.

With the mill now installed in the town, farmers can now process their harvest at home, saving time, effort and transport costs.

According to residents, the benefits extend beyond the farm.

To them, the mill will reduce labor for women and youth who bear much of the burden of traditional processing, produce cleaner rice that can fetch better market prices, encourage farmers to plant larger acreage, create local jobs for operation and maintenance and improve food security through more locally processed and stored rice.

“This is a joyful moment for us, as residents of this town and by extension the district as a whole,” said a resident of Kporkon Town, Ma Oretha Sando.

Nyakoon through his movement, the Friends of Nyakoon, explained that the donation reflects his belief that lasting change begins with investing in people’s livelihoods.

“Agriculture is more than farming; it is an investment in livelihoods, food security and the future of our people,” he indicated through Friends of Nyakoon.

The agricultural support is part of his continuing interventions in different sectors across Electoral District #1.

In a related development, the Nyakoon’s initiatives have been extended to the educational sector with his Back-to-School initiative reaching six additional schools of the over 40 schools to benefit.

The Back-to-School initiative said branded school bags and 100-page composition books distributed to the students.

The schools that have already benefited include: Community of Hope Mission School, Daisy Bopah Academy in Buehn Town, Morweh District, Garwon Public School, Kangbo Public School and Gbarsleh Public School.

At each school, students received supplies intended to ease the financial burden on parents and ensure learners begin the new academic year prepared. At Daisy Bopah Academy, whose motto is “Unlocking Minds, Unleashing Dreams,” students proudly displayed their new bags and notebooks.

Regarding the educational intervention, Friends of Amos Nyakoon narrated that the education initiative highlights the importance of investing in children, noting that “education must remain a priority if District #1 is to build a stronger and more promising future.”

Both interventions have been welcomed by residents as practical steps toward improving food security, livelihoods and educational opportunities in the district.
