Monrovia-Representative Worlea Dunah, the first Unity Party lawmaker to publicly oppose the Presidential candidacy of Vice President Joseph N. Boakai is accusing Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa chair of the special presidential task force of instituting what he terming as legal recklessness.
Representative Dunah in an interview with FrontPageAfrica questioned the moral character of Cllr. Koffa. According to him the chair of the task force has a bad character and because of that he should not be used to fight war against corruption.
The lawmaker said: “He has no character; he worked in America as a naturalized citizen, he wrecked his character because he went to court and pleaded guilty for mismanaging resources of a township. He has proven criminal mind that he put to use to cause these damages. I don’t think such character should be used to pursue an integrity war”.
Added the lawmaker “The issue of morality and others character is serious. Having wrecked his own character he will not take due diligence in looking that others have character and therefore in my view he has proceeded recklessly he has instituted legal recklessness into the whole process of attempting to fight corruption.”
The Nimba County lawmaker among many things accused the chairman of the Task force of not submitting findings or report from his investigation before indicting people. He also claimed that the committee chair after indicting people in court has gone around the world to look for evidence against people he has already indicted.
Give funding to LACC
In further comments Rep. Dunah questioned the decision by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to appoint a Taskforce when there exist a Liberian Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Ministry of Justice that were created by law to carry out the task being carried out by the Taskforce.
“He already damaged the people character, you call them names and put them on front pages of newspapers than you want to go look for fact. It is wrong, the integrity institutions must be allowed to do their work I disagree with the President on that,” Rep. Dunah said.
When he was appointed as head of Special Task Force by President Sirleaf to investigate the damning Global Witness report linking some senior officials of government to bribery, he committed to conducting a creditable investigation.
Cllr. Koffa, said the taskforce has a responsibility to the public and as such it will probe the matter and bring to justice those indicted in the report based on sufficient evidence.
Cllr. Koffa in remarks at the time said, the investigation would be concluded within thirty days based on cooperation from both parties and those involved. Making the disclosure on a local radio show Cllr Koffa lamented that Global Witness, the main complainant’s evidence will be critical to speedily probing the allegations.
Cllr. Koffa said the Task Force is working twenty-four seven to be able to give as quickly as possible some answers to the Liberian people, while stating that there are government officials at the highest level who are mentioned in the global Witness report.
