RE: Grand Bassa Community College President Suspended For Financial Improprieties

The Editor,

On behalf of concerned Friends of Dr. Nathaniel Galarea Gbessagee in the Diaspora, we would assume that you did not read the story which caption appears above, hence, could not have noticed that the purported details provided by the Chairman of the College’s Board didn’t meet the legal elements of “Financial Improprieties” as headlined by the reporter, or writer.

So, since the slanderous imputation is fanned by your widely read news outlet, we ask that you ascertain the pertinent facts properly and take it down to not cause further damage to the reputation of a humble and honorable man held in high esteem by peers and all who know him professionally, or otherwise.

May we ask, was your newspaper able to investigate adequately, before pronouncing Dr. Nathaniel Galarea Gbessagee’s name was put into the realm of the Liberian public?

Has your news organ ascertained from the Board of Directors of Grand Bassa Community College (GBCC), evidence of fraud and ‘financial impropriety’ as reflected in your report?

This appears to us as “sensationalist journalism” because it focused on exaggerations and manipulations of events to shock readers. It seemed that you have rushed to judgment without conducting an efficient investigation.

You have an obligation to the Liberian people, to make sure that your news reporting presentations are factual and credible.

You owe it to the humble gentleman’s character and integrity, to your readership and the Liberian public at large to take these immediate steps, with public addenda, to your readership as you see ethically fit so as to stop any further character injuries of the accused without further delay.

Let us anticipate your cooperation thereby, thanking you in advance. Indeed, those in the news business should be very cautious of unwittingly cheerleading malicious smear mongering campaigns, and be mindful of nefarious characters against targeted victims.

Elder Siahyonkron Nyanseor,
Chair Friends of Dr. Gbessagee in the Diaspora
