Monrovia – President George Manneh Weah scored a brace in the first half to inspire the Ministry of State to a 6-0 victory over the Ministry of Lands, Mines & Energy in the Intra Ministerial League at the Barclay Training Center sports pitch.
The Ministry of State was held to 1-1 draw in their first match in the absence of the President. But President Weah, dressed in his traditional number 14 jersey with inscription President Weah, captained the MOS for the first time in a ministerial match.
He was played a free role and dictated the tempo of the game with his opening goal in the 8th minute.
The former World Players of the Year now President, collected a pass from Daniel Landford right over the 18-yard box before his beautiful low shot at the far bottom corner of the net, caught goalkeeper Jacob David unaware to put his side in the lead.
The Lands, Mines and Energy players’ counterattack in the 12th minute was blasted over the crossbar by Tom Nimely.
The President’s ministry doubled its lead in the 16th minute through Thomas Kpehe’s cool finish from Landford’s cute pass. Kpehe watched the defender before curling his effort that beat goalkeeper David.
Dominant Ministry of State made at 3-0, following President Weah’s second goal of the afternoon. The Liberian leader drove on the right flank before striking a stunning effort that carried the crowd in jubilant cheers.
Back from the break, the State Ministry came with more resilient. Kpehe clutched his second with a delicious effort from close range to beat in the 61st minute.
Four minutes later, substitute Samuel Kaizai headed home a second for the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy from a close range after Ab Sharife Kromah’s spectacular effort rebounded on the woodwork.
They got another chance to add to their tally through Mohammed Kiazolu, but his effort, which caught goalkeeper Forkpa Yogie out of position in 73rd minute, went wide over the bar.
In the 78th minute after a J. Emmanuel Potter’s assist Kpehe grabbed his hat-trick to burn the hope of the mines boys.
Meanwhile, Ministry of National Defense defeated Liberia Telecommunications Authority 3-1 in the day’s early kick-off.
