The retreat brought together members of the Country Leadership Team (CLT), including the Country Director, Heads of Program Influencing and Implementation, Finance, People & Culture, Administration and Logistics, Sponsorship Support, Area Program Managers, and the ICT Manager.

The gathering seeks to deepen alignment with Plan International’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities, while strengthening decision-making, leadership skills, and internal collaboration.

Key objectives include addressing high-impact operational challenges, enhancing communication, fostering innovation, and building stronger interpersonal relationships within the leadership team.

Over the next three days, the CLT will review programmatic achievements, evaluate operational gaps, and refine approaches to improve governance, optimize resources, and ensure excellence across all interventions.

In her opening remarks, Country Director Miriam Murray underscored the importance of the retreat as a moment of strategic reflection for the organization. She emphasized that Plan International Liberia’s success is rooted in cohesive teamwork, mutual support, and strong leadership at every level.

Ms. Murray also shared key insights from the recent West and Central Africa Regional Meeting of Country Directors, urging the team to reinforce the organization’s brand, strictly uphold internal policies—especially those related to fraud prevention—and increase visibility of their work. She further stressed the need to position young people at the center of advocacy strategies, recognizing them as critical agents of change.

The first day featured a series of technical presentations assessing project progress, emerging challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

The Director of Finance highlighted the importance of efficient resource management, cost reduction, and strategic spending to sustain program quality.

The TB-HIV Project Manager presented updates on project implementation, while the Head of Programme & Influencing offered a comprehensive review of ongoing interventions, calling for strengthened management support to assist field teams.

The Head of Programme Implementation reported on field operations, government engagement, and advocacy efforts aligned with the new strategic plan.

The Sponsorship Manager outlined the current status of enrolled and sponsored children, alongside recommendations to improve follow-ups and departmental performance.

The Human Resources team addressed staff well-being, leadership responsibilities, supervisor–supervisee dynamics, and the importance of modeling organizational values.

Day one concluded with open discussions and renewed commitments from the leadership team. The retreat continues through Thursday, with the overall goal of harmonizing strategies, strengthening internal cohesion, and enhancing the impact of Plan International Liberia’s work across communities.
