Monrovia – Liberia’s giant mobile phone company, Orange Liberia has been recognized as the highest taxpayer for fiscal year 2017/2018 by the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).
As the highest taxpayer, Orange took the Gold category of the award, followed by ArcelorMittal with Silver and Monrovia Breweries taking home the Bronze.
The three firms top the list of 42 best taxpayers including individuals, private firms and public institutions that were all honored by the LRA at an elaborate ceremony held on Wednesday, July 10, at the Paynesville City Hall.
Speaking at the event, LRA’s Commissioner General, Thomas Doe Nah said the Taxpayer Appreciation Day was set aside to recognize private and public institutions and individuals that have contributed immensely and diligently to the national revenue collection process.
LRA’s Deputy Commissioner General, Decontee King – Sackie lauded the awardees and noted that they were instrumental in partnering with the LRA to generate domestic revenue of US$427.2 million, and external resources of US$41.5 million for fiscal year 2017/2018.
Meanwhile, in the large tax division, APM Terminals-Liberia was recognized as the most compliant tax payer, while Firestone Liberia named as the most compliant taxpayer of the natural resource tax division.
Bong County’s Senator, Dr. Henrique F. Tokpah was honored as the highest contributor for real property tax in the residential category, while Adeline Morris was singled out as the highest real property taxpayer in the industrial category.
The Ministry of Transport was named as the highest contributor to revenue generation among the public institutions and Nimba County was recognized as the highest contributing land-border county.
Others include TOTAL Liberia, highest taxpayer of the petroleum industry followed by Petrol Trade. Bridgeway Corporation was named the most compliant importer followed by UN Drive Super Market.
Also at the event, a special achievement award was bestowed on LRA’s former Commissioner General, Elfrieda Stewart-Tamba in recognition of her contributions to the development and growth of the institution, while USAID outgoing Chief of Mission, Anthony Chan was honored for his contributions to Liberia’s domestic resource mobilization.
The LRA’s boss, Thomas Doe Nah thanked Madam Tamba for her immense contributions during her time at the LRA and pledged to improve on her good work to boost Liberia’s revenue generation.
Mr. Nah also hailed Mrs. Tamba for supporting him in his professional career which started at the Liberia’s Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI).
