Monrovia — Liberia’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Amara Soko Sackor, on Tuesday led a Saudi delegation into high-level talks with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, securing a proposed US$25 million investment aimed at transforming the country’s sports infrastructure.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Monrovia, is part of Ambassador Sackor’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to translate Liberia–Saudi Arabia relations into tangible development outcomes.
The proposed funding package includes the renovation of the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex and the construction of a modern stadium at Tower Hill along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway in Margibi County.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister G. Andy Quamie and Assistant Minister Marvee Gray welcomed Ambassador Sackor and the Saudi delegation, outlining the government’s priorities for upgrading sports facilities across the country.
During the discussions, Ambassador Sackor explained that the proposed support aligns with a broader framework agreement between FIFA and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), which focuses on constructing and upgrading sports facilities in developing countries.
He noted that, as part of the process, the Government of Liberia will undertake a feasibility study to determine whether a full renovation of existing facilities or the construction of a new modern stadium would be the most viable option.
Ambassador Sackor reaffirmed his commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships that deliver lasting infrastructure and opportunities for Liberia’s youth. He emphasized that strengthening sports facilities goes beyond competition, describing it as a pathway to youth empowerment, talent development, and fostering national pride.
Officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports expressed appreciation to Ambassador Sackor and the Saudi delegation for advancing discussions that could significantly reshape Liberia’s sports landscape.
