Liberia: Special Task Force Submits Report on Cause of Gasoline Shortage
MONROVIA – The Special Presidential Task Force constituted by President George M. Weah to investigate circumstances that led to the scarcity of petroleum products on the Liberian Market has finalized and submitted its report to the President on Friday, February 21, 2020.
The Task Force, headed by the Minister of State Without Portfolio, Trokon Kpui, was charged with the responsibility of probing what was determined to be a variance of 60 percent between importers’ inventory of products at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) and actual stock at the storage facilities.
The President has highlighted the significance of the investigation and the need to take the appropriate actions after fully perusing their report. This, he said, is necessary in order to advert a repeat of the difficulty Liberians encountered in the last couple of weeks as they tried to obtain petroleum products.
The report, which will be made public, includes a detailed explanation of the LPRC petroleum storage and lifting schedules, while also describing what caused the shortage and which corrective measures should be taken to prevent a recurrence.
