Kogar was sworn in on Thursday following the submission of his official credentials during the Senate’s regular session.
Delivering his first address on the Senate floor, Kogar called on fellow lawmakers to transcend political divisions and serve in the best interest of the Liberian people.
“We must unite as patriots and not partisans to push the interest of our peoples,” he said. “Liberians also deserve progress—not the usual politics.”
The newly seated senator stressed the importance of aligning with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s development agenda, saying the country needs decisive and impartial action.
“Liberia is bigger than all of us. The time to act without favor is now,” he added.
Kogar, who previously served as Representative for Nimba District #5, reflected on his journey from the House of Representatives to the Senate, expressing appreciation to his constituents for their continued trust.
“In 2011, you believed in me. You entrusted me with the responsibility to represent you in the House of Representatives. That decision set a stage for my growth in national leadership,” he said.
Describing his induction as a “historic milestone,” Kogar vowed to bring energy and results-driven leadership to the Senate.
“It is a great honor to join this August Body—one that plays a pivotal role in shaping the destiny of our nation. I want you to know that my presence here will be nothing short of positive,” he said.
As a member of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), Senator Kogar said he remains committed to serving all Liberians, regardless of political affiliation.
“I stand here not as a partisan politician. But as a national leader, I will work with all of you regardless of political affiliation because the people of Liberia deserve unity, not division,” he said.
He also honored the legacy of his late predecessor, Senator Prince Johnson, acknowledging the weight of expectation now placed on him.
“The people of Nimba overwhelmingly voted me to carry the torch he once held high. I do not take that lightly. To the people of Nimba County, I hear you; I see you; I feel your hopes and expectations. I promise today with every fiber of my vein that I will never compromise your interest or that of our beloved Liberia for nothing.”
Senator Kogar ended his address with a firm pledge to advocate for tangible progress in Nimba County.
“Nimba deserves better. I will fight to ensure that better becomes a reality; I will not let you down.”
Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence welcomed the new senator and emphasized the Senate’s role in fostering national cooperation.
“This is the House of Elders where the views of everyone are respected,” she said. “We encourage you to bring your legislative experience to bear as we all work together through our various committees for the good of Liberia.”
