MONROVIA – Social media followers have applauded the political leader of the Alternative National Congress for his request and acceptance of the resignation of his Chief of Office Staff, Isaac Vah Tukpah, over his recent publication of a book with a chapter that denigrates the First Lady of the Republic.
FrontPageAfrica cannot republish the exact words published by Mr. Tukpah in the book titled, George Weah The Dream, The Legend, The Rise to Power: The Journey of an Enigmatic Leader. The book was co-authored with Emmanuel Clarke.
Chapter 13 of the book reveals a discussion President Weah had allegedly had with one of the authors about his wife, Mrs. Clar Weah.
However, the revelation as published has caused a stir among the population and has been strongly condemned, especially by women groups.
In a message, Mr. Cummings expressed his regrets over the publication, though the book was written long before Mr. Tukpah was hired to serve as his Chief of Office Staff.
Cummings said, though Mr. Tukpah has served the position with distinction, the high moral standards at the ANC have to be maintained at all cost.
“The standards of alternative leadership for our country that we have set for ourselves, now and in the future, are particularly higher than the usual, and we are determined to maintain it. It means we must stand with all those who are right, when they are right, even if they are not our friends, and refuse to stand with those who are wrong, even if they are our friends and workmates. I will continue to do so because this is the example of the quality of leadership that our country desperately needs to change course, and improve the lives of Liberians,” Cummings stated.
According to Cummings, the revelation of the alleged discussion exposes a deviant behavior in the Liberian society in the continuous disrespect and denigration of girls and women.
“I find the publication of the alleged discussion to be an error of judgment which in itself has the effect of enabling and fueling such reprehensible behaviors of men disrespecting women. This certainly does not excuse the alleged disrespectful and privately invasive discussion by a husband of his wife, which I find to be disgraceful and offensive,” he stated.
Reacting to the resignation, Jacqueline Hamilton posted to commented, “Commendable display of leadership, Mr. Cummings. I am disappointed because Ivah was an asset. I pray that you find someone as committed and hardworking”.
Lawrence Gbeleyee: “Thank you our future President come 2023. Although it is difficult to made this kind of decision but you did it Cause you are a great leader. Again thank you Mr. Cummings.”
James P Morris: “Hard to take, but very necessary for precedence sake. I am sadden by his resignation, but trust his contributions to our team. Wish you the best COS.”
Daniel G. Buwell: “Thanks so much Hon.Cummings for your strong sense of family values and respect for womanhood. I may not be one of your followers but from this day forward you’ve earned my high degree of respect and admiration.”
