Monrovia – The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) has pledge its commitment to launch the Liberia’s chapter of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP).
The UPF is a global network of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace in which everyone can live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and prosperity.
Addressing the House of Representatives of the 54th Liberian Legislature on Thursday, May 3, the UPF Secretary-General for Africa, Adama Doumbia, who was a guest of the Legislature, said his mission was to successfully launch program.
IAPP is an international network of parliamentarians established by the UPF to address critical issues such as racial and religious conflicts, environmental degradation, violent extremism, hunger and poverty through the common solidarity and cooperation of parliamentarians of the world.
“It was founded as an organization of parliamentarians on a global level to seek out the realization of the world of everlasting peace and the development of humankind along the path of co-existence and mutual prosperity for future generation,” he said.
“I am here in response to your invitation and in fulfillment of the International Leadership Conference recommendation #3 which is aimed at enhancing acquaintance with the Speaker and the honorable Legislature to include partnership assessment and technical consultation with the House committee on peace and national reconciliation and other stakeholders to ensure a successful launch of IAPP in Liberia.”
He added that the IAPP serves as a global platform for networking among parliamentarian worldwide, to dialogue and explore innovative approaches to address some of the critical global challenges, serve as a platform for interface and active engagement for former parliamentarians who collectively contribute through their wisdom and experience to promote and sustain good governance peace and human development.
He said since the founding of IAPP at the National Assembly of Korea, several chapters have been launched in over 70 countries including 12 African nations which are; Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, Cameroon, Gabon, DR Congo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo, Ivory Coast and Senegal.
He hailed the warm reception accorded him while in country and pledged the federation’s fullest support and cooperation towards President Weah’s pro-poor agenda and the promotion of peace and stability in the Mano River basin, adding that Liberia is a catalyst for promoting peace and human development in the sub region.
UPF is an international and interreligious network of individuals and organizations, including representatives from religious, government, civil society and the private sector dedicated to achieving world peace.
Meanwhile, the House Standing Committee on Peace and National Reconciliation Chairman, Hon. Dorwhon Gleekia, thanked the UPF envoy for his visit and hailed his colleagues for their cooperation toward the launch of the IAPP in the country.
