Motorcade Driver Apologizes For Children Death – Remained in Prison

Monrovia – Handcuff bond Tunis Follah dressed in white collar shirt and a khaki pants and with a sunglasses was escorted to the Monrovia Central Prison by sheriff of the Traffic Court for the alleged killing of 7 and 9-year-old minors in a vehicular accident.

Follah was driving the pilot vehicle of the presidential convoy that hit the kids – killing one instantly while the other was pronounced dead on arrival at John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center.

The incident occurred on November 30 in the ELWA Junction vicinity at about 5:30 PM when the convoy from returning from the RIA International Airport without the President who at the time had left for Accra.

Twelve-year-old Melvin Tucker and 9-year-old Jackson Kordah were returning from extra study session when they met their untimely deaths.

Follah has been charged by Liberia National Police for failure to drive with due care in consonance with Section 10.2 and 10.4 of the Vehicles and Traffic Laws.

Speaking to the FrontPageAfrica, Follah who asked not be photographed take responsibility of the incident.

“Ever since the tragedy occurred as a result of my inexcusable conduct, I have wanted to say that I am sorry and apologize to the family from the bottom of my heart.”

“I wish that I could be able to give back to the family for all I have taken.”

‘I can spend the rest of my life attempting to apologize for my conduct — by devoting myself to educating the public of the disastrous consequences of reckless driving.”

“I understand that the impact of this event on me is irrelevant when compared to the loss the families of the victims have suffered.”

“I wish to totally apologize for my role in this tragic event,” he reemphasized

Follah will spend his nights at the Monrovia Central Prison until an appearance bond is secured on his behalf.

Prior to his appearance at the court, he reportedly spent over three days at the Liberia National Police facing investigation.

On December 6, 2016: President Ellen Johnson made a brief stopover at the Gbargboe Town Community in Paynesville to sympathize and identify with the bereaved families of the two children.

President Sirleaf was accompanied to the home of the bereaved families by authorities of the Liberia National Police including Col. William Mulbah, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Administration, Col. Abraham Kromah, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations and Meekie Gray, Chief of Public Safety and Liberia’s Defense Minister, Brownie Samukai, Jr., among others.

Speaking to Mark Kordah, spokesperson of the family via phone, he revealed that the burial of the children will take place Saturday and said that the families expect that the children are given a befitting burial by the government.

He revealed that up to date, the Government of Liberia hasn’t consulted them over the preparation for the burial.
