Monrovia – With just a few days to the much anticipated October 10 Presidential and legislative elections in Liberia, Mr. Albert J.B. Cooper an independent candidate vying for the representative seat of district #10 Montserrado county is urging residents of the district to vote for him if they want development in their district.
Mr. Cooper made the pronouncement on Saturday, September 30 at a campaign rally in the district.
He said among the many candidates wanting to unseat Representative Julius Berrian, he is the most development oriented of them all, and as such the electorate should cast their ballots for him on October 10.
Mr. Cooper said that as a self-employed man, he is not in the race to enrich himself, but rather to serve his people and contribute to the development process of the district and the country at large.
“With my level of development over the past years in this district, I believe I am the rightful person to take on the leadership role in this district because with my own money, I have carried on more developmental projects in District#10 even more than the present law maker”, he noted.
“This district needs competent leadership which has been lacking for the past six years now; so in this election our people are not going to elect people who have not done anything for them. It is about time we vote for people who want to serve and not to be served” he said.
The Montserrado district # 10 hopeful said if elected he will provide basic incentives like water, electricity and better health care for the residents of the district and added that the wellbeing of the people of district#10 has been over looked by the current leadership; something he vows to improve if elected.
He also pledged to lobby with his colleagues at the Legislature to ensure that residents of Peace Island Community Congo Town, who are currently recognized as squatters, attain permanent status.
“There are almost thirty thousand people in the peace island community who don’t have status yet, if elected that will be one of our major tasks to provide permanent residential status for them” he averred.
He further noted that as a means of building the capacity of the youth in the district, he will open more technical institutions for youth who dropped out of school and no longer have the desire of going back to formal school; noting that this will reduce the high crime rate in the district.
The Montserrado County District #10 Representative Candidate also cautioned voters to stop voting on party line.
“For our district to see development for the next six years, we as voters should stop voting on party line, instead start voting for people with integrity, honestly and most of all someone who has the willingness to improve the lives of the ordinary citizens”.
