LINSU Dedicates New Headquarters Discloses Plans For Next Two Years

Monrovia – As part of efforts to improve the wellbeing of the student populace in the country, the Liberian National Student Union (LINSU) at the weekend opened its newly renovated headquarters and at the same time presented plans of action for the next two years.

Since its establishment in 1952, LINSU is the only umbrella organization for all students and students’ organizations in Liberia.

According to the LINSU Executives, the new office on 16 Street, Sinkor, has been secured for the next 30 years. It has a reading room and a training center.

The leadership of LINSU presented its Students Reform Agenda (SRA) – the five working pillars for the next two years.

“Since our election, on September 29, 2018, and later induction on November 9, 2018, being fully aware of the many challenges faced by the National Students Union, we are pleased to present to the general public the Student Reform Agenda, a document gear toward a radical yet positive change in the students movement,” said Isaac Muapoh, National Secretary of LINSU.

The five working pillars which comprise of Rebranding, Decentralization, Quality Education, Infrastructure Development and Sustainability were approved and signed by various student organizations in the country.

Muapoh said the reform strategy, when fully implemented, will get the students of Liberia more active and concentrated on activities that will develop their minds.

“It is designed to make students from all spectrums of Liberia feel the evidential impact of LINSU and also create the avenue for our students to complete on the International Level,” he said.

He called on the government and International partners along with other educational stakeholders to support LINSU to achieve its agenda.

“In the next two years, our leadership will work with the government of Liberia, opposition leaders and development partners for the construction of the National Students and Youth Complex,” he said.

Also speaking, the former president of LINSU Varney Jersey said “it is possible for the present leadership of LINSU to achieve its agenda to the fullest because many of the young people are now in government were immediate past students’ leaders”. 

Jersey says during his reign there were many tussles with government officials which hampered his administration’s progress.

“We fought reactionary element yesterday; we defended and protected the sanctity of the national student movement to have a brilliant student movement today,” Jersey said.

“It is possible that you can achieve everything because the young people that are in government are all rally behind you (LINSU), many of them are former national youth and student leaders.”
