Monrovia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has suspended with immediate effect three officers assigned at the Zone Four Police substation in Gardnersville for harassing and intimidating motorcyclists. The suspension of the trio comes in the wake a recent report which linked top senior officers of the Police to armed robbery attacks in the country.
A suspension letter issued to the three officers accused them of being involved in acts of unprofessionalism and other forms of Police improprieties. The three suspended Police officers, according to the Police, have been turned over to the Professional Standards Division for further investigation.
A LNP statement issued under the signature of its Chief of Press and Public Affairs name the affected officers as the General Commander of Zone Four C/Supt. Sackor J. Freeman ID# (LNP-1128), Patrolman Alex Z. Theo ID# (LNP-0639) Chief of Operation of Zone 4 and the Chief of Traffic of Zone 4 Patrolman Musa A. Kanneh ID# LNP-0875
The LNP said the officers have been in the constant habit of harassing motorcyclists in the Gardnerville area, an act which contravenes Chapter III Section 1.21 of the new Police Duty Manual captioned, ‘’Prohibited Conduct’’.
The suspended officers have been ordered to turn over all government properties including Badges, Uniform, Police identification card and all Police accessories in their possession to the Human Resource Department of the Liberia National Police. The release further noted that the suspended officers have been warned to desist from identifying themselves with the organization while undergoing suspension to avoid further embarrassment.
Meanwhile, authorities of the Liberia National Police called on the public not to interact with the suspended officers regarding any Police function during their suspension period. It can be recalled the Police suspended with immediate effect six of its officers pending investigation, in connection to the disappearance of a large quantity of single barrel gun ammunitions from its Forensic Evidence Room.
The thirteen boxes of missing ammunitions were arrested on November 1, 2014 by joint security officers in Ganta, Nimba County and placed at the Headquarters of the Liberia National Police Forensic Room and where the items went missing on the 7th of March 2015.
A Police Statement named those suspended as Supt, Vally Sheriff, Chief/ Supt. James Moore and Terry N. Kerkula, others include Inspector Justine B. Bondo, Moses Williams and Detective Varney A.M. Sheriff of the Interpol Section. Five of the suspects assigned in the Forensic Section had access to the Keys of the forensic Room while one of them was caught interceding on behalf of the suspects at the time of the investigation.
