So far, seven schools have benefited from over twenty cartons of copy books and pens worth thousands of Liberian dollars. Some of the schools that benefited include Gucian Chastain Academy, M.K Islamic School, Mohammed Kromah Islamic School, Light of the Quran School, Faimo Christian Academy and the African Islamic Center School.
Mr. Kenneh is an award-winning Journalist and currently serves as President of the Legislative Press Pool.
Speaking at the stop of each distribution site on Monday, October 8, Kenneh said the donation was triggered by the enormous challenges faced by students in the area despite their quest to pursue education; and the gesture is his way of identifying with them as they go against the odds in their education sojourn.
He promised that the process will continue overtime and ensure that every school in the district will benefit; nothing that education is an important tool to national development.
He also used the occasion to encourage the students to take their lesson seriously in preparing themselves for future challenges, adding, “You can only achieve your goals in life through obtaining quality education which the bridge that gaps between the haves and have not.
When quizzed on whether he has an outside support towards his humanitarian gesture, the PUL 2018 Legislative Reporter of the year was quick to point out that he is the sole sponsor of the initiative and he is happy to continue to use his meager resources towards a worthy cause.
“I am doing everything on my own. The little I am earning as a journalist, I use some for my family and the rest on the schoolchildren. We want the support of everybody. Our dream is to see a better Liberia. So, whosoever that would like to contribute, we will appreciate that. But, we are not sitting and waiting for support. We will continue to help with what we have. It is often said that little is much when God is in it,” he averred.
Meanwhile, Kenneh has called on the Ministry of Education to increase its supplies to schools across the country as these institutions continue to struggle in providing the needed services to the students.
He indicated that the lack of proper monitoring by the Ministry of Education is one of the factors responsible for the decline of the educational sector of the country.
Receiving the boxes of materials, the school’s administrations in separate remarks lauded Journalist Kenneh for the initiative.
Pastor Varney Boakai, Principal of Gucian Christian School, noted that the donation was timely given the difficulties face by both the schools and students in getting the required learning materials.
Also speaking, the Vice Principal for Instruction of the African Islamic Center School, Augustine Samah praised Journalist Kenneh for the donation and encouraged other prominent members of the community emulate his exemplary initiative in extending their support to the school.
For his part, the Chief Imam of the Chicken Farm Mosque and the Proprietor of the MK Islamic School offer prayers for the Journalist for his continue services to the community, indicating that this is not the first contribution of Journalist Kenneh to the community.
The President of the Legislative Press Pool has over the years provided scholarships to several students across the district and offer tutorial classes for students in the district.
Journalist Kenneh is also working with the St. Francis Road Community Health Awareness team for its weekly health and sanitation awareness in communities across the district, self-help projects, cleaning of the communities and places of worship among others.
