Freeman arrives in Europe following a competitive stint with Ghanaian top-flight side Heart of Lions, bringing a wealth of domestic and international experience to the Liga III club.

The versatile right-winger previously made his mark in Liberian domestic football, most notably during a successful tenure with Watanga FC, where he won the championship titles before expanding his career into West African and continental competitions.

International Pedigree and European Ambitions

Beyond his club career, Freeman brings valuable international pedigree. He has earned six senior caps for the Liberian national team (Lone Star) and previously served as the team’s vice-captain under Romanian coach Mario Marinică.

His profile features appearances in high-profile fixtures, including the CAF Champions League, Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Club Official Statement

AFC Dunărea officially welcomed the Liberian forward to the squad through its social media platforms, highlighting the impact expected from his arrival:

“We welcome Chauncy Freeman!

The 25-year-old Liberian international signs with Danube Giurgiu, after parting ways with Ghanaians from Heart of Lions!

The right winger by the job, the African is a real boost to the Third League, becoming one of the most titled foreign players active in the echelon.

With 6 selections in the draft, the last registered in November 2025, Chauncy remains a much-loved player in the homeland, where he has won two championship titles with Watanga.

The new ‘Danube’ also has matches played in the African Champions League, the preliminaries of the Africa Cup or even the 2026 World Cup!

Under the order of the Romanian national coach Mario Marinica, the striker was even vice-captain of Liberia.

Good luck to Chauncy!”

Expressions of Gratitude

Following his departure from Ghana, Freeman took to social media to bid farewell to his former club:

“To everyone at Heart of Lions Football Club Limited, thank you for the opportunity, support, and memories throughout the season. It was an honor to wear the club’s colors and be part of the team. As I move on, I wish the club, my teammates, coaches, and supporters nothing but success in the future. Thank you, Heart of Lions FC, and God bless. ”

Following the finalization of his move to Europe, Freeman extended heartfelt appreciation to those who supported his journey:

“Big thanks to my management, Poise Sports, our CEO Zawadi Em Jarnyneh, my mom, and Coach Mario. Before we walk, we crawl.”

Freeman will now focus on adapting to his new environment, securing regular playing time, and helping AFC Dunărea achieve its competitive objectives in Romania.
