Monrovia – Liberian entrepreneurs who are frequent travelers to China to purchase goods are calling on the Government of Liberia to stay engage with the People’s Republic of China in the wake of the deadly Coronavirus outbreak in that part of the world.
Hundreds of Chinese and other nationals have died from the deadly Coronavirus virus which broke out in Wuhan, China.
In the statement delivered under the signature of the entrepreneurs’ President Saah Kpengba, the group recalled the tremendous contributions of the government and people of China during the outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Liberia in 2014.
The entrepreneurs, under the banner, China Shopping Center, assertions were contained in a statement delivered to the Chinese Embassy near Monrovia on Monday.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 4,000 people died during the outbreak of the virus in Liberia.
The group noted that China’s contributions of medical supplies, equipment, and infrastructures for the fight against the Ebola virus, manifested Beijing’s goodwill toward Liberia.
The group maintained that the government should remain positively engage with the government and people of China because the country and its people remain a significant trade partner.
“We are aware of the numerous contributions you have made to our government through road network, infrastructure, education, manpower development, and so on, which are worth noting here. As we gather here today as business people, we like to assure you that we share your pains and aspirations in curbing this deadly virus”.
The statement furthered: “In this light, we encouraged our government to remain positively engage with the Republic of China as they remain vital to trade in our country Liberia.
“The business community specifically frequent travelers to China wish to use this medium to publicly express our deepest solidarity with the People’s Republic of China in the wake of the deadly outbreak of the new Coronavirus that has claimed the lives of friends, family and loved ones. We are aware that this period is very critical in the history of our country.
“We like to assure you (the People’s Republic of China) that we are with you in faith and prayers especially the health workers who demonstrate the outmost sacrifices in saving lives. It is with conviction and love that we are issuing this statement of solidarity and we are also admonishing you to be resilient as you deal with this national calamity”.
