Monrovia – Team Liberia has grabbed a bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdle at the African Senior Athletics Championship. The flagship championship was held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, from Wednesday, August 1 to Sunday, August 5.

US-based Liberian hurdler, Wellington Zaza, on behalf of the four-man’s Team Liberia, on Saturday ran the bronze medal 110m race at 13.88 seconds.
Liberia’s only medal at the African Senior Athletics Championship summed total bronze medals to four.
Akeem Sirleaf, another US-based 200m Liberian sprinter left in the heat with 21.38 seconds.
Liberian female high jumper, Otricia Borkuah, did not clear (or successfully) a jump but Kadmiel Enders reached the final but stopped at 1.90m in the male high jump category.
About 51 countries with over 800 athletes were in Asaba.
It may be recalled Team Liberia, comprising four athletes and two arrived in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria on Monday, July 30, 2018.
Liberia was amongst the lucky participating countries, which escaped the chaos of being 100 miles away from the venue in Asaba and wasn’t stranded at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos, Mulbah Zaza, the president of the Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF), said.
“Liberia didn’t face connecting flights problems and visa issues,” Mulbah added as he patted themselves on the backs for “better preparation of going earlier.”
“We appreciate the moral concern of the Ministry of Youths and Sports, but again, we didn’t receive anything from the government to represent the county to participate in the Africa’s flagship athletics competition where the Liberian flag was hoisted and national anthem sung.”
LAF Vice President for Technical Affairs, Frederick Krah said Team Liberia is expected in the country today Monday, August 6, from the 21st African Senior Athletics Championship.
