Liberia: Voting Starts With Huge Turnout Across the Country

MONROVIA – The Presidential and General Elections got off to an impressive start, marked by significant turnouts in various parts of the country. Voters began queuing as early as 5:00 a.m., patiently waiting until 8:00 a.m., the official commencement time for polling.

FrontPageAfrica correspondents noted bustling polling stations across Montserrado County, the nation’s most populous county. Early morning turnout reports have also been received from Margibi, Bong, Grand Bassa, Lofa, and Nimba Counties.

However, FPA reporters observed challenges faced by the National Elections Commission (NEC) staff and security personnel in organizing queues at certain polling stations. Concerns were expressed that such difficulties could potentially lead to tension in those areas.

As reported by our correspondents, the challenges in maintaining order at these polling stations have resulted in a situation where elderly citizens, pregnant women, and individuals with disabilities may not receive the preferential treatment stipulated by NEC regulations.
